Happy Halloween!!  This year, Buzz will be dressed as Kylo Ren and Ahgoo decided to not be a princess but rather be a superhero!  She is going to be Owlette from PJ Mask.   We've had rain on and off the past few days but it's looking like Halloween will be dry.  As usual, we attended Halloween festivities at the kids' schools.  This will the last year we have to attend festivities at two different schools.  This year, rather than carving pumpkins, I decided to drawa picture onto the pumpkin and have the kids paint on them.  I think they turned out pretty nicely.  Have a safe and fun Halloween and hope that you will get the best candies on the block!

Rather than posting tons of pictures, I'm trying something new.  I'm using the new photo feature on my iphone which takes all of my pictures from a group and composes a movie for me.  Click on the picture below to view it in Youtube.  We took the kids to the pumpkin patch at Irvine Park.  Our good friend and his adorable little two-year-old daughter joined us for the fun.  It took her a little while but she finally warmed up to Buzz and Ahgoo towards the end.

Update to my last post...after a few weeks of getting used to the new school/activity schedules, I'm feeling a lot better about things.  Being a room parent at Chinese school is not as bad as I thought.  The soccer practices and games are not too stressful.  During Buzz's soccer practice I work on bike riding with Ahgoo.  She's doing very well riding on her training wheels.  I've even been able to take the kids on relaxing picnics on quiet Sunday mornings in our neighborhood.

Which allows me to ponder about strange things again.  I had to update my iPhone to yet another version of the operating system.  Just as I have gotten very used to everything, they literally have to change everything.  I now have to push the Home button to log in, instead of swiping.  The camera is also accessed via a swipe, instead of a flick.  So you can imagine that I've been doing everything wrong the past week.  Is this a reflection of a generation?  Is constant change part of the Millennial DNA?  I suspect that companies like Apple, Microsoft, and Google are dominated by Millennials.  Appears that the only thing that have remained constant is the QWERTY keyboard!  Can you imagine if they constantly change the key layouts!!?  Even then, I don't think it would slow down the texting speed of Millennials.  But I do wonder why they haven't changed the QWERTY keyboard yet.  Is it that sacred that even Millennials won't touch it?  I thought that the file menu for all the Microsoft Office tools are sacred too, but didn't stop them from screwing with it!  Other thoughts, I'm hoping that when Buzz and Ahgoo have to learn how to drive that self-driving cars are the norm.  :-)  Happy Fall!

Ahgoo's doodle at a restaurant.  She loves to draw me, herself, and a cat.

I have to keep remembering my friend's wise words, that raising kids is like a marathon.  But these days I can't help but feel burnt out.

Most recently, schools have started and Buzz just joined AYSO.  Ahgoo gas also started her 3-hour lecture Chinese school, Buzz just happens to get the strictest Chinese school teacher and first grade teacher in both schools.  They are both still in swim lessons.  The demands of homework and "parental voluntolds" (when you have to volunteer for things at your kids' extracurricular activities) are starting to get to me.  And Ahgoo's been asking for ballet lessons.  All this and Buzz is still only in first grade, how can I last until they are both in college???

Tell me, what do working moms do??  Last night, I made Buzz home lunch because he didnt like school's offering the next day only to complete forget to pack it for him the next morning.  I was so upset dropping him off at school that he even said to me,"It's ok Mama.  Do you need a hug?"

I know I am probably stressing myself out too much but I constantly feel like if I dont push now that I will not build a good foundation for the kids academically.  How will kids in their generation turn out?  Most kids today probably have the most educated parents of past generations.  But can these highly educated people repeat their parents' successes and get their own kids the education they've had?  Many of the parents in Buzz and Ahgoos' Chinese classes do not actually speak Chinese themselves though they are full Chinese.  Their own parents decided not to teach them Chinese, choosing to focus on their American education.  But now these people all want their children to be bilingual.  What are the expectations of this new generation?  Me personally, I am shooting for the stars for our kids.  I want them to aim way above me and Mr. BAW.  But I guess I have to be careful not to burn them out and not to burn myself out trying.
