Top 3 baby enemies: 3) Noisy food wrappers. (My attempts to eat in bed always end up waking the sleeping baby.) 2) Red traffic lights. (Must be a motion thing...Ahgoo screams at every red light...a nightmare during rush hour!) 1) Gas!!!!! (Need I say more??)

Mr.
BAW has an aunt who lives in San Juan Capistrano so we go to San Juan
regularly to visit her. However, it was only recently that I
discovered the little charming area of Los Rios!!
This is a little historic district tucked behind Downtown San
Juan and it is a charming little gem!! The area is part of
a neighborhood street with homes converted into restaurants and
shops. There are very few cars so kids can run around and have a
great time. They even have a petting zoo, Zoomars,
where kids can catch a pony ride or feed the llamas. We didn't
have time this visit to try the restaurants but we'll definitely be
back! I'd love to take my friend TNK to the lovely tea house for
afternoon tea there! Happy Summer!

We
recently utilized our annual passes and took the kids to Disneyland.
Since we go often, we just set simple goals each trip. We
always have to hit the Buzz Lightyear ride but beyond that, we change
things up. Last time we went, I took Buzz on the Small World
ride, one of my favorite. This time, we took him to Tom Sawyer
Island where he climed to his heart's content. We also went on
the Haunted Mansion ride, also a favorite of mine. But since we
have Ahgoo with us, I spend a lot of time just hanging out in the shade
with her as Mr. BAW took Buzz on rides.
So what do I do
during those times? Do research, of course. Since having
kid number two, I've been secretly wanting a double stroller (we have
been using two strollers thus far.) But I don't want to deal with
a monster ride that I can't handle. So I've been thinking of
getting one of those sit and stand strollers. Soon, Ahgoo will be
able to sit in a stroller without the infant seat and Buzz is old
enough to walk longer, I think the sit and stand stroller will be a
good fit for us for a few years. But which one?? What
better place to stroller-watch than at Disneyland?? Look at all
the strollers parked by the river!! The ones I saw the most were
the Baby Trend Sit N Stand, the Joovy Caboose, and the Graco RoomFor2.
They
are all very similar in concept, the younger child sits in a stroller
chair facing forward and the older child either stand facing forward or
sit facing backwards. The main differences are price, weight, and
gadgets. I don't much care about gadgets, they all lack in
storage space. But the weight is important to me since I don't
like heavy and large strollers. The price is also a factor.
Since I did quite a bit of stroller-watching, I saw all of the
strollers in action. There was a rather tall kid (she was
probably about 5ft tall) who was able to still cram herself into the
back seat of the Joovy! Funny what one will tolerate to avoid
walking on a warm day. :-) I saw the Joovy and the Baby
Trend the most. The reviews are very good for the Joovy as well.
I'm getting close to pulling the trigger to purchase the Joovy.
But then we'll have 5 strollers in our garage!!! (One was a
hand-me-down from my nephew.) We currently have two umbrella
strollers and a jogging stroller. We do keep an umbrella stroller
in each car. Can we really be THAT family with a fleet of
strollers?? But having a double stroller will be very handy for
family trips to amusement parks or shopping trips. Sigh...guess
you can't win either way. I ended up ordering the Joovy Caboose.
I'll donate the hand-me-down stroller to make room for the new
stroller. :-)

I
spent 25 years in school so it's no wonder I love universities.
But these days, I love visiting them even more! Ever since
Buzz learned how to walk, we've been taking him to different
universities to let him run around. Universities on the weekends
are wonderful places for little kids. They are usually pretty
empty, they have tons of grassy areas free of cars, and they are clean
and beautiful. It's like a private park with beautiful buildings
and gardens. You can even bring a tricyle or balls for your kids
to play with.
Our latest adventure takes us to Caltech,
one of the most prestigious universities in the world. It's only
about 5 miles from my parents' home so after we paid them a visit, we
took the kids over to Caltech for a picnic and some family pictures.
The place was nice and quiet, with just a handful of students
walking around and eating at the outdoor tables. The only thing I
have to warn you about is that almost all of the schools we've visited
these days have installed security locks on all of the campus
buildings. So if you need to visit a restroom, you'll have to
rely on cafeterias or campus stores. This is especially true for
holiday weekends.
We had a wonderful time at Caltech on Memorial
Day. They have a pond in the middle of campus with turtles so
Buzz was curious. But when a turtle actually crawled onto a rock,
it startled him! He slowly backed away and said to the turtle,
"Goodbye turtle!" Ahgoo enjoyed herself as well. This is
her very first university visit! I threw her blanket down and she
chilled on the grass in the shade. When we were leaving, I asked
Buzz if he liked Caltech and maybe would like to attend college there.
He responded, "YEAH!" :-) |
