Happy Thanksgiving!! We have much to be thankful for this year.  We bought a new house and got married.  I got a new job.   And Toby turned 6.  2008 has been a good year for us.  But it hasn't always been easy.  Mr. BAW and I both had our shares of issues at work.  The bad economy has affected us all.  We couldn't sell my condo so we ended up renting it out.  Gas prices hit a historica high in 2008.  Poor Toby had another oral surgery to remove his cracked tooth.  But overall, it has been quite an exciting year and much to be thankful for.

So gobble gobble to everyone!  This Tree Man was an exibit at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas in 2007.  He's so amazing that I thought I'd showcase him again.

Some of my favorite shots from the wedding were of our first dance.  We chose to do the first dance immediately at the start of the reception for two reasons.  The first reason is that I would've been far too nervous to enjoy any part of the reception if we didn't get it out of the way immediately.  Secondly, our site coordinator recommended it.  He told us that it would set the tone for the whole reception and that we would have the attention of the entire reception, before people get distracted by dinner and conversations.

The song we picked for our first dance was Que Sera Sera by Pink Martini.  There are three reasons for picking this song, in particular Pink Martini's version of it.  Since Mr. BAW and I both have two left feet, we wanted to pick a short song, under three minutes ideally.  This song fits the bill, that's reason number one.  Secondly, we heard this song a year ago when I took Mr. BAW to the Hollywood Bowl for a Pink Martini concert.  That was his first time ever at the Hollywood Bowl so it was a special time for us.  Third, we had been taking dance lessons with the local city recreation classes and our favorite dance was the Waltz.  We ran it by our dance instructor and he informed us that we can definitely Waltz to this song.  So there you have it, that's why we picked Que Sera Sera for our first dance.

We actually didn't practice dancing to our song.   Plus, it was the first time I ever danced in my puffy wedding dress.  Luckily, it was not too heavy for me to twirl in.  I had been wearing my wedding shoes to the dance class just to break them in.  So I was pretty comfortable dancing in my 3-inch heels.   The only thing we had to be careful with was that Mr. BAW did not step on my dress while we were dancing.

I love the look and feel of these black and white dance photos.  They remind me of the Big Band era of the 50's.  I feel like turning these pictures into postcards.

It just wouldn't be a wedding without funny faces.  Here's a collage of some of the crazy moments at our wedding.

Although Toby's almost completely recovered from his tooth extraction, he's now dealing with two new bummers.  Two weeks ago, I quite my job of 7 years.  I took the opportunity to take a week off before starting my new job.  So I got to spend everyday at home with Toby while he was recovering from his oral surgery.  So when I started my new job this week, he's left by his lonesome self again during the day.  That's bummer number one.

The other bummer is that since we had the end of daylight savings time, the Sun has been setting at around 4:30pm!!  So by the time his daddy and I get off work, it's pitch dark already.  Therefore, no hiking trail for Toby.  Instead, we take him to the local park where there's some lights.  But the park is not as interesting to Toby as the hiking trail.  Plus, I have to keep a closer watch on him since there's no fence around the park.

However, my new job does implement the 9/80 work day which means that I work 9 hours a day but gets every other Friday off.  So at least I get to take him out to the trail every other Friday, plus every weekend.

No matter what people say, love will prevail.  Congrats our friends J & M on their recent wedding!

Down the road, people will look back and wonder how anyone can even think of passing a law that would restrict who people can marry.  We have enough problems in this world to solve such as murders, wars, gangs, and poverty.  Why would anyone waste their precious time and resources to write a law that dictates who people can love and share their lives with.

Having just been married myself, I can't imagine what it would feel like if there was a law telling me that I can't marry Mr. BAW.

Best wishes to J & M as they start their new lives together.  I can't think of a cooler couple!!

My poor little boy had a bad toothache.  How do I know?  He couldn't enjoy his favorite activity in the world.  For the past few nights, he couldn't chew on his after-dinner rawhide.  He still asked for a rawhide, but could not chew on it.  I checked his teeth and discovered that one of the large molars on the top has been chipped and cracked.  A visit to the vet confirmed that the root is exposed in that tooth.  A couple of years ago, he had another tooth extracted for the same reason.  This time I recognized the signs and immediately booked an appointment with his vet.

But happily, his tooth extraction was a success and he's on his way to recovery.  He'll be eating mushy can food the next couple of days...but somehow I think he wouldn't complain.

Hum...maybe I should put his tooth under his pillow...

Although flowers were not at the top of my priority list during wedding planning, they turned out to be one of the most beautiful part of our wedding.  This, I must give credit to four people.

The first one is my Matron of Honor, TNK.  I was so close to making my own bouquets for the wedding.  I was not going to get a florist because I didn't want to spend thousands of dollars on flowers.  But TNK convinced me to consult a pro and that I'd be way too stressed to make anything the day before the wedding.  She was right, flowers are one of those things that you can't make a week in advance.  You have to be able to store it in a fridge.  Following her advice, I did consult a florist.

The second person I must thank is my bridesmaid AP.  She recommended her own wedding florist to me.  I was confused, where do I go for flowers?  Do I just walk into some random store?  Her  recommendation gave me confidence that I would not be ripped off.

The third person I need to thank is the florist and owner of The Flower Pot.  I had a strict budget and she worked with me to get the contract down to my budget.  She was very close to our home so we were able to pick up the flowers on the day of the wedding, thus saving on delivery charges.  I sent her pictures of bouquets I like and she did her best to mimmic them.  Overall, it was a pleasant working relationship.

The last people I need to thank are our photographers.  They of course made the flowers look amazing.  Enjoy our flower photos below.
