Our
favorite hike at Zion was the Canyon Overlook Trail. This trail is rated Easy
in a few lists but also rated Moderate by others. Due to the exposed
cliff drop-offs in some portions of the trail, I would be on caution
side and rate this Moderate. There are a few places where footing may
cause some problems for the senior and junior folks. But the view is
absolutely spectacular and the trail is kept interesting by the different
terrain. There's also a cave that offers retreat from the blazing Sun in
one area. We highly recommend doing this hike early in the morning because
by 10am, it was unbearably hot. The view at the top is well worth the
sweat though. Enjoy the pictures!

As promised,
more pictures from our trip to Zion. This set is from our first hike
at the bottom of the canyon, it's the Riverside Walk rated Easy. The entire trail is
paved and there's no elevation change. Not knowing how Baby was going
to do on the hiking backpack, we decided to take it easy on our very first
hike. We did the hike early in the moring, at 7am. Thus we avoided
the heat and the crowd! By the time we were heading back there were
a lot more people. Due to the Easy rating, there were a lot of seniors
and children on the hike. On the hike, we also managed to see a beautiful
8 point deer. I had a great time, it was a very relaxing hike.

Wow,
where did the time go??!! It was just August a few days ago and now
I find myself in the middle of September! We did manage to take a brief
but very, very satisfying mini-vacation to Zion and the
Grand
Canyon. It was a whirl-wind road trip but I was completely relaxed
and had a wonderful time. We dropped Toby off at Mr. BAW's Aunt and
Uncle's because he wouldn't have enjoyed the trip. The temperature
at both National Parks were up to the low 90's each day and it would've been
torture on Toby. But Baby did well on the road trip and he was amazing
during the entire trip! He slept well and ate well and was a great
hiker, being on Mr. BAW's back for all of our hikes. We borrowed a
friend's baby hiking backpack and Baby just enjoyed the view on our hikes.
We spent two days at Zion and one day at the Grand Canyon. We actually
didn't do any hiking at the Grand Canyon and that was our plan. There
are more easy to moderate trails for us with Baby at Zion. This is
my first time at either park and I have to say that I love Zion more than
the Grand Canyon. It is simply a more intimate park because you start
out in the canyon and there is a road that allows you to drive up to the top
of the canyon. We did two hikes, one at the bottom of the canyon along
the river (rated easy) and one at the top of the canyon with a breath-taking
view of the entire canyon (rated moderate.) We did both hikes early
in the morning before 10am to avoid the heat. The plan worked out well
because during the hottest part of the day, we got back to our hotel and
took naps, then took a swim in the pool. We also took a nice stroll
through the little town of Zion and grabbed ice cream and dinner. It
was a very relaxing trip.
Between Mr. BAW and I, we took about 900 pictures!! So I will have
to show you pictures in several blogs. I'll start off with our charming
little hotel at Zion, the Desert Pearl Inn. I love this place! It
was a suite with a full kitchen, including dish washer and even a toaster.
We were on the first floor and our room opens right up to the swimming
pool and a little private sitting area. The little town at Zion is
also very cute. Enjoy these pictures for now, more to come.
