Baby got his very first knee scrape over 4th of July weekend!!  We were in Chicago and he was playing outside on the cement and fell.  I was lamenting it in the car later that day and my brother-in-law laughed and said, "One of hundreds to come!"  How true for little boys!?!  I just have to get used to the fact that I can't protect Baby from everything.  **Sigh**

We bought this little remote control from Target for $5.  That's about $5 cheaper than getting a toy remote which Baby doesn't even like.  He wants to play with whatever we use, he wants to be just like us.  So to prevent him from playing with our real remote, we bought him this GE one and didn't put any batteries into it.  So that's the challenge of the moment for an 18 month old toddler, taking control.  Baby is definitely working hard at asserting control over his world these days.  His favorite response to any question is "No!"  Sometimes he'll vary it by saying "No, no!" or "Nope!"  Then, just in the last week, he's learned to say "No way!"  I suspect that he may have picked that up at daycare.  "Would you like to eat your dinner?"  "No!"  "Do you want your diaper changed?"  "No way!"  **Sigh** So goes life with an assertive toddler!! :-)  The only thing I would caution parents of is that the real remote controls do have soft rubber buttons that younger babies may gnaw off and swallow.  Baby is now beyond that gnawing stage but I still keep an eye on all the buttons and make sure that none of them are in the threat of falling off.

We spent a week in the windy city of Chicago for the 4th of July!!  I was extremely nervous about flying with Baby on two four-hour flights!  But we managed to tire him out so much before each flight that he slept for almost 3 hours of each flight!!  I was so proud of him!!  He did push the light button a few times and pushed the flight attendant button a few times, but other than that, he was a joy!

The weather in Chicago was fabulous when we were there.  It was hot, about 85 degrees and a tad more humid than L.A.  But overall, it was beautiful.  We avoided rain the entire time we were there.  We stayed with my BIL and his family.  We got to meet our 4 month old nephew.  He's absolutely adorable and Baby loved him.  He kept pointing to his new cousin and say,"Babee!" My FIL and MIL also drove in from Michigan to spend a few days with us.  They graciously agreed to babysit both kids so that we can enjoy a double date night out!  This time out to Chicago we went to some new places I've never been.  We actually got to Wisconsin and visited the University of Wisconsin, which is a beautiful lakeside campus!  We visited a strange place called the House on the Rock.  We also hit the city of course and enjoyed a free concert at Millenium Park.  We also took Baby to the Shedd Aquarium and he had a blast!  I think he really liked the dolphins.  But I think Baby's favorite part of the trip is when we all went to a swim club and he got to go into the kiddy pool for the very first time.  He LOVED the water!!  He played with all the sprinklers and the water gym.  One of my favorite part of the trip was our visit to Frank Lloyd Wright's residence in Oak Park.  I enjoyed the house tour and the neighborhood tours.

Overall, we had a wonderful time in Chicago spending quality time with the family.  Enjoy some of my pics.
