I love beautiful things. But
I love affordable, beautiful things even more! I discovered this talented
woman from Thailand who makes these beautiful jewelry and sells them on
Etsy, an Ebay-type online craft marketplace. Her online store is called
Heartdesign88. All of her jewelry are very affordable.
I ordered a couple of necklaces and waited until I got the products
to write about it. I wanted to make sure that the products are indeed
gorgeous and that she was a reliable vendor. Both are true. Many
of her jewelry are made with silk threads but some are made with silver
chains. But with fashion jewelry making a big scene these days, I'll
be visiting her store often! Plus, beautiful jewelry always make wonderful
Christmas gifts. :-)

We took a little day trip to Riley's Family Farm in
Oak Glen for some late-season apple picking. The farm is about 100
miles NE of LA, total drive time to get there is about 2 hours. The
farm also has a colonial house which is a restaurant called Hawk's Head Tavern
where all the staff dressed up in 18th century garb. They also served
18th century foood including hot spiced cidar and pot pies. We all
had a nice time there. But my favorite part was that I got to pet two
horses! They were such sweet horses, almost like dogs. One of
them kept loweing his head for me to pet him...kinda reminded me of a certain
large, furry dog. :-) We took tons of pictures but these three
are my favorite.

Baby and I both got our flu shots the other day. I hate getting
shots. Let me rephrase, I really, really hate getting shots. So
I was kind of nervous about getting the flu shot. I took Baby in for
his shot first. I had him sitting on my lap and I held him tight expecting
him to cry and scream. I also looked away because I can never watch
a needle break skin. But literally within less than two seconds, it
was done and Baby never even let out a cry! So needless to say, it
would look pretty bad if I cried for my shot! :-\
One reason I hate getting the flu shot is the pain in the arm after.
So why does your arm hurt after getting the flu shot?? Turns
out that the soreness is due to our own immune system responding to an adjuvant
added to the vaccine. Our immune system response causes slight swelling
in the muscle which then causes the "soreness" we feel in the region of
the shot. Like anything, some people are more sensitive than others
to the chemical agent...so I must be super sensitive to it since my arm still
aches two days after the shot.

Our Halloween party was a success. The usual suspects
were there; the ghosts, the ghost buster, the superheroes and the villains.
There were also some animals including a monkey and a mouse.
We also had some fairies and some bugs. All in all, it was a fun day.
Mr. BAW was in charge of making most of the party food but I had
the tough job of coming up with the food names! If you want some creative
food names for your next Halloween party, read on. :-)

As you can tell, the theme of the party this year were pumpkins. Rather
than messing with real pumpkins I decided to use balloons to mimic pumpkins.
I drew pumpkin faces onto the balloons with a marker. But we
had such a hard time finding orange balloons!! All the stores were
running out of them! And then I had a hard time getting the balloons
to stay up because I blew up the balloons using a tire pump and didn't use
helium. I didn't want to rent a helium tank because it was such a hassle
to have to return the tanks. I also didn't want to buy a tank that was
only one-time use.
Two years ago, I saw this at Martha Stewart's website and decided that I was
going to make them. Well, the first time I made them I bought whoopie
pies but separating the cookies were a pain and I kept breaking the cookies.
Then the ice cream was pretty messy as guests were eating them. This
year I found little cups to hold the ice cream at Smart and Final but couldn't
find cookies big enough to cover the cup opening. Plus, I wanted
to use chocolate covered cones but couldn't find them anywhere. Then I decide
that I would buy these little eyes from Michaels and glue them onto the
cups to make the witches' faces. Well, it was a pain to glue them on!
I kept gluing my own fingers together yet the eyes kept falling off
the cups! Ugh! The whole thing was more trouble than it's worth.
So I was pretty grumpy the whole time I was making these witches. I
was complaining that Martha Stewart doesn't live in the real world and her
ideas are not excutable by real people with the lack of tools and time.
I told Mr. BAW that if I mention ice cream witches next year to just
slap me.
It was then that Mr. BAW said to me, "I think you should write a blog..."
To which I replied, "I do write a blog."
"No, I think you should write a blog called 'Almost Martha' because
every time you try to make something Martha you always end up making something
not quite right."

November in Manhattan Beach. It
was a glorious November day at the beach strolling with my guys. We
took Toby and Baby down to the Strand for a nice walk. It has been
way too long since we've taken Toby down to the beach and just look at
that grin on his face! He got to chill on the bench with Mr. BAW while
I fed Baby a bottle. The weather was perfect, in the low 70's. There
was just the right amount of people at the beach. We shared a coffee
and walked the Strand admiring the sunset. Toby got to say hello
to a couple of dogs along the walk. Autumn takes on a different look
at the beach, but it's still as sweet as can be.

It was Halloween Parade Day at the daycare! This is Baby's very
first Halloween and Mr. BAW had to dress him up as Superman, of course!
We all had tons of fun. All the parents showed up with cameras
and some even wore costumes.
That morning, we brought Baby's costume in with instructions on how
to put it on. The teachers then help the kids into their costumes.
The infants got to ride the parade route in their cribs. Each
crib carried three babies. The older kids walked the parade route
holding on to a rope. It was all too cute. The cribs came out
first and the crowd was busting with excitement! The babies were all
behaving extremely well, mostly they were curious as to why there were
so many people standing around waving at them and taking their pictures!
I modified Baby's superman onesie by adding the red "underwear" and
yellow "belt". I attached a red bandana onto the back of the collar
for the cape. I also made him some blue pants to go with the outfit.
Unfortunately, he out grew the onsie so we couldn't button the bottom.
But it still looked good over blue pants. Add a pair of red
socks and the costume is complete. The best part is that Baby doesn't
even know he's wearing a costume. It was also a very warm day so
I was glad that his costume didn't include any fur or hat. Mr. BAW
was such a proud daddy!
