Yay it's Friday!! Perfect day to show you another Toby-dorky moment.
Last night, I let Toby out the backyard to do his thing before bed.
He goes and takes care of his business but then decided he has an itch
and wanted to take a roll around the grass. I generally don't like
it when he does that because if the grass is damp he'll get a little damp
too. So I called him to come in and he got up and ran to the door. That's
when I noticed something strange on his forehead! "What's on your head
Toby??" I asked him. He looked up at me and said, "What Mommy?!!"
Upon a close look, it was a tiny little slug! Ugh!! I backed
away and closed the screen door on him. Of course, I had to grab my
camera to catch the moment that can only happen to Toby! After a few
shots, I flicked the little bug off his forehead. The little slug landed
on the steps and streched out its antenna. I guess it didn't really
like being picked up by Toby accidentally! I wiped the slim off Toby's
forehead before letting him back in. Such a dork! :-) Have a
wonderful weekend and don't let the slugs slim you!

Since becoming pregnant, we've been very careful to not go crazy with
baby-related purchases. Even when I was single and just had Toby, I
vowed never to become a victim of material goods. I never bought Toby
crazy amounts of dog treats and toys such that material things take over
my home. Instead, I believe that Toby would be happy with quality time spent
playing in the yard or at the park with me. We're trying to take the
same approach with our baby. So since finding out about the pregnancy,
we've only made one clothing purchase, a little Pooh overall that Mr. BAW
had to get because he said that every baby boy needs an overall, which I
can't argue with.
However, when we were in New York, we stumbled upon a huge clearance
sale at the Gap. Tons of baby clothes were on sale, in some cases
close to 75% off. Due to this huge sale, we picked up a couple of
organic cotton onesies for newborns. One of which was this adorable
Capricorn onesie.

|
Is this adorable or what?? Since it's size 0-3 month, I know that
the baby will outgrow this very quickly. But this is such a cute onesie
that I will store it as a keepsake so that when our boy is grown up I'll
show him what he wore as a baby. Hopefully he won't spit up all over
it. But I'm sure he will. :-)

We spent our first wedding anniversary in New York City! It was
my first time at the Big Apple and I had a blast. Even at 6 months
pregnant, I was able to get around this busy city thanks to the efficient
subway system. The weather was also amazing. It stayed in the
low 80's the entire time we were there. Thankfully, the humidity was
pretty low, very similar to LA weather. We did so much in the four days
we were there. We stayed at two hotels, one right in Time Square and
the other right by Central Park. We even had the Chicago cubs and
a few of the US Open tennis players staying at our hotel!
We visited the Empire State Building (I took this picture at the observation
tower on 86th floor), Times Square, Central Park, Soho, Rockefeller Center,
Rose Planetarium and Natural History Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art,
NYU, Washington Park, Brooklyn Bridge, and Little Italy. The only
site we didn't get to see that I wanted to see was the Statue of Liberty.
All tickets to the Statue have been sold out until November! But
I really can't complain, we were everywhere!
Part of our trip also focused on the incredible food around Manhattan.
I got my fill of NY pizza, cheesecake, hotdog, chocolates, and bagels.
We went to The River
Cafe for our anniversary dinner under the Brooklyn Bridge enjoying
the spectacular Manhattan skyline at night. The meal was also amazing.
I ordered a rock lobster appetizer that was the best lobster I've
ever had!! I heart NY! :-)

I love fruits. Since we live very close to a Sprouts Supermarket,
I've been getting amazingly fresh Summer fruits each week. Sprouts
has been the best supermarket for reasonably priced fresh produce. Since
the start of Summer, I've gone through my fill of cherries, plums, apples,
grapes, oranges, and lately...cantelopes and watermellons.
I usually will have fruits after dinner and I would also take
them work for my mid-morning snack. So with most fruits, I just
bring a few in a zip loc bag and eat them at my desk. But I can't
take a huge melon to my office! So what I like to do is to make mellon
balls using my beloved mellon baller. The mellon baller is one of
my favorite kitchen tools. I've always wanted one and I've always
wanted to make perfect little spheres out of mellons. Call it a strange
quirk, but don't you think that mellons in the shape of a perfectly round
ball are just so adorable?? Plus, they're super fun to eat, kinda
like eating a giant, juicy lollypop.
The only problem I have is that my mellon balls are never perfectly
round. They are always flat on one side. You can't really
tell from the picture because I turned all the flat sides over. The
flat side bugs me. I finally read online that you have to really
dig the mellon baller down into the flesh to get a perfect sphere. So
I'm slowly getting the hange of making better balls. But when you
dig deeper in, you do tend to loose more juices and you can make less balls
since you tend to waste more fruit flesh. Happy mellon balling!

I came home yesterday from work and discovered these beauties
waiting for me!! Aren't they simply yummylicious?! Turns
out that they are from my friend TNK. They are another one of her
thoughtful gifts to Mr. BAW and I for our 1st wedding anniversary!
It was such a pleasant surprise, just the thing I needed after
a long day's work and an extremely hot day at that! As you can
see, there are two empty slots in the box...that's because we got so
excited when we opened the box that Mr. BAW and I each grabbed one and
ate it before I realized that I wanted to take a picture of them.
Thankfully, we got them the day before our trip to New York and
we managed to eat the whole box. They came packed with an ice pack
so they were fresh and chilled.
Of course, you know who had his ears all perked up when he heard
me yell, "Strawberries!!" Toby LOVES strawberries. Unfortunately,
these ones were not for him...:-)
