Since Baby started eating solids
Toby has taken up a second career, besides being the Golden Sleeper that
is. He's now also the Golden Sweeper. This was a cheerios incident
a couple of months ago and Toby immediately sprang into action, quickly
and expertly sweeping up all of the cheerios on our wood floor. Given
the exhaustive state of mind at that time, I wouldn't have minded so much
except that instead of having to clean up cheerios, I had to clean up dog
drool. So Toby did not save me any clean up time really. Recently,
Baby has taken a huge liking to cookies, which he affectionately calls "gakie."
He is completely addicted to these organic vanilla cookies I got him
and would ask for it the second he gets home from daycare, the minute he
finishes his breakfast, and really any time in between. The problem
is, he is now at the exact same height as Toby's face! Poor Toby, how
much self control can one ask of the dog!?! If you wave a "cookie"
which is also Toby's own favorite word for his dog biscuits, in his face,
he will have to take it! So I constantly have to shish Toby away from
Baby whenever he's holding a cookie in his hand. But Baby seems to
think it's all a game and continues to taunt Toby with his "gakie." Sigh...life
is never simple with a Baby and a dog!

It's no secret that I'm an eternal
scholar, I love university campuses. So on a cool weekend, we took
Baby to one of our favorite local campus, UC Irvine for some toddler fun.
We've been to the campus before, it's a gorgeous school built around
a giant central park. The park is absolutely beautiful, see the last
picture below. This time, we noticed something cool, these bicycle racks
with campus bikes. Turns out that the bicycles belong to Zotwheels,
a bike sharing program. So the concept is that you become a Zotwheels
member and then you can rent the bikes for a 3-hour use and return the bike
at your destination, where there's another Zotwheels station of course. I
think this is a great idea! I could've used this when I was a college
student! I remember one semester I had back-to-back classes on the
complete opposite sides of campus with only 10 minutes in between. I
didn't want to buy a bicycle so being able to rent a bike for a semester would've
been nice. What will college be like when Baby goes in 18 more years??

Wouldn't these two make an adorable couple?? She's 3 and Baby's
1.5. It'd be pretty crazy if Mr. BAW and I become British Royalty wouldn't
it? :-) Yeah, so what if they're only toddlers and live a couple of
continents plus an ocean apart, one can still dream! I admit that
I watched the Royal Wedding with awe. I'm a sucker for such things.
I love watching all the beautiful dresses and pagentry of it all.
I love the gorgeous church and carriages. I especially love
Eliza, this little bridesmaid who looks like a real live
angel! Would you ever have guessed that she is Camilla's granddaughter??
It'd be fun to be the King's in-laws wouldn't it? :-)

This year, Toby's birthday happens
to fall on Mother's Day. As his adopted mommy, I couldn't be happier
to help my furry baby celebrate his 9th birthday!! I can't believe
it's been nine amazing years living with this beautiful and gentle creature.
We all love him more than he'll ever know. Happy birthday Toby!

For some reason I thought that
Mother's Day is always the second weekend of May! But I guess I have
an excuse for my forgetfulness this year. Turns out that the terrible
two's is not from age 2 to 3 but rather refers to the second year of life
which is from 1 to 2. This means that Baby is smacked right in the
middle of the terrible two's! He's actually a pretty good kid, but
he does get a little needy. And like all babies his age, he's discovering
that he's his own person. So he wants to be independent but still
lacks the coordination to be self serving. Also turns out that throwing
tantrums is actually considered to be a milestone, check out month 16 in this table!! :-) So the consolation is
that Baby is right on track when it comes to developmental milestones.
:-) So happy mother's day to all the mothers out there, especially
to our two favorite mothers!!!
