Since having a baby, I have probably cut about a hundred of these little buggers! They are literally used in every baby product ever made. Why do they have to individually link each pair of socks to another in the same pack is beyond me. If they are afraid of people stealing them, they should just package them all into one bag. But I guess it's cheaper to just tie them all together in twenty different places so that even a thief will get too annoyed to steal them. I always tried to gather them all up as I cut them off but I'm sure there are many of these little T's fallen into dark corners of our house. I don't even know what these things are called but they sure do annoy me. As much as baby clothes snaps annoy a friend of mine. :-) So, out of curiosity, I searched the internet and discovered that they are called tag fasteners and you can purchase them here...50,000 of them for just 5 dollars! No wonder they're so popular with stores... ........................................................................................................................................................... What a glorious Friday this is, Baby flipped over on his own for the first time ever! I placed him in his crib on his tummy and he pushed up with his left arm and flipped over onto his back. I think he was as surprised as I was about the move! Luckily, Grandma was also a witness to this amazing feat. Then, later that evening, he held his bottle on his own long enough to finish a whole two ounces of milk!! I know all babies go through these milestones but I want to make sure to document this day for Baby. The human mind is such a complex being and to watch it develop daily is simply extraordinary. As humans, we are born most helpless. Lacking in mobility and speech, human babies are completely dependent upon the parents for years. Why you ask? Why are we born so helpless, our minds so undeveloped? It's because the human brain has evolved to be large to allow us higher levels of thinking that if we were born more mature, our heads would not be able to pass through the birth canal. Crazy... ........................................................................................................................................................... We recently tore up the entire yard (front and back) to re-seed since our lawn was overtaken by weeds. Poor Toby is kept out of the yard for at least 4 weeks! This was our yard only two weeks ago. Now, it's completely green again, but covered with baby-fine grass. We're still waiting for the baby grass to toughen up before we are allowed to walk on it. It's officially May gray in LA, we had two days of drizzle. But I'm already excited about Summer! By the time the weather gets warm, baby will be ready to crawl. So we are re-seeding now so that baby can crawl around in the yard safely. Since Summer's getting close, someone posted a little tip at my work about a trick to keep flies at bay. Apparently, hanging a bag of water (some variations include adding a few pennies into the water) will deter flies. Does it really work? I don't know. Out of curiosity, I searched the web and found that perhaps the flies are disoriented by the refraction of light through water. Or that the motion of the water is enough to scare the flies away. We don't have too many insects and bugs in our yard. But if the weather gets really hot, we will occasionally get a flie or two, especially if Mr. BAW is cooking on the grill. So I may try this water method and see if it'll deter any flies. :-) ........................................................................................................................................................... This is Sophie, supposedly the world's most famous giraffe...for babies that is. I've never heard of her before until one day we thought that baby is showing signs of teething. He started to get really fussy at around 5pm and cried for three hours straight. We even took him to the emergency room. So I started to research online and disvcovered that this little giraffe is world famous for teething babies! It has gotten over 600 raving reviews on Amazon! I was sold, especially since the nightly crying was getting to me. So I ordered two for a discount and waited anxiously for days while it was being shipped. Turns out Sophie is French. She was invented in France by someone who wanted to make a rubber toy for his kids. Sophie is made out of natural rubber from a particular tree in France and is hand painted with non-toxic food coloring. It squeeks when squeezed. So the verdict? Baby likes Sophie! He likes to chew on her feet. I think this picture makes the twenty dollar price tag all worth it. Hopefully Sophie will make baby's teething experience a little easier. ........................................................................................................................................................... Happy Mother's Day! This is my very first Mother's Day celebrating as a mother. I am so honored to be joining these two women who have been mothers for decades! Baby Sean is very lucky to have them as his grandmothers. I hope to be as good a mother as these two amazing women. Also Happy Mother's Day to several of my good friends who are also first time mothers this year. So what did I want for my very first Mother's Day? I asked for a whole steamed crab to have at home by myself. Mr. BAW was wonderful enough to steam the crab, made me a fabulous garlic butter dip, and watch baby while I spent an hour enjoying my meal in silence. :-) It was heavenly! I think this will be my Mother's Day request every year...maybe I'll vary it up by asking for a whole lobster next time. :-9 ........................................................................................................................................................... Happy 8th birthday Toby!! This has been such a huge year for Toby. He's endured so much change in his life. It started in November of last year when we had our kitchen renovation. Then baby arrived. When baby came, Toby could no longer get onto our bed because the bassinet is right next to the bed so he started to sleep in the living room. Then my In-Laws came to stay with us. And now, we're re-seeding our entire yard. Toby's beloved backyard is all torn up and we have to keep him out of the yard for another 5 weeks! Of course not all the changes are bad. Toby loves his Grandpa and Grandma staying with us since they take him out for walks during the day. And as you can see, Toby's enjoying quality time with baby. Through all these changes, Toby has remained the same loving dog that he is. His Dad baked him his favorite peanut butter carrot cake for his birthday. We all love you very much Toby!
