Over the
Fourth of July weekend, we took a quick but full trip to Denver to
visit Mr. BAW's cousin who moved there two years ago. The trip
was only three days, but we managed to see everything on my list!
We spent one day in Boulder, one day in Colorado Springs, and
half a day in the Denver area. We had wonderful weather, it was
warm and I was able to pack super light for the kids. Thanks to
the hospitality of our cousin, she gratiously drove us everywhere and
put us up in her lovely home. She even picked up and returned two
carseats we rented in Denver.
That's something we learned
on this trip, renting carseats was awesome. We initially were
thinking about flying with two carseats but the logistics of getting
them from the car to the airport with luggage and the kids were just
too daunting. But the whole rental process was great. The
carseats were $7 per day per carseat. In addition, you can have
them deliver the carseats to an address or you can choose to pick them
up yourself. You can also rent just about any baby product you
can imagine including cribs, pack n plays, toys, high chairs, etc!
Apparently most cities have these rental services.
We
also had a very smooth flight both ways. It's incredible how much
easier flying with the kids are these days now that Ahgoo is potty
trained. It's also much easier now that the kids can be
entertained with a movie. But actually Ahgoo wanted to sleep
during both flights...bliss. Enjoy our pictures from Denver and
Boulder. I'll share the second part of the trip in another post.
| Fashion Truck! I can't believe this hasn't caught on in LA yet.

| A cute little coffee/wine bookstore in Denver. They had a give a book/take a book window box.

| The store table was made out of stacked books.

| | The entire teahouse was built by hand in Dushanbe, Tajikistan and gifted to the city of Boulder.
| There was beautiful carvings everywhere inside the teahouse.
|
The beautiful ceiling.
 | We met up with a friend of Mr. BAW's from business school and enjoyed a wonderful lunch at the teahouse.
| The Univerity of Colorado.
 | The kids loved these giant dandelions at Chautauqua Park . They literally blew out every single dandelion in a one square mile area.
 | Beautiful Chautauqua Park.
 | We has a lovely and relaxing stroll at Chautauqua Park. But there were many serious hikers there as well.

Just for kicks, I took an online personality test.
Unfortunately, I am ENTJ, part of only 2% of the population.
This means that I am out numbered at home. Although no one
else in my family has taken the test, I'm pretty sure that none of my
kids nor Mr. BAW is an ENTJ. This may explain a whole lot of
what's been going on in our household. Lately, Ahgoo has kicked
into high gear for temper tantrums. She wakes up cranky, comes
home from school cranky, and has just been a terror. But she's
still been great at school all day long. Buzz has been feeling
left out so he decides to throw in a few tantrums of his own. In
addition, Mr. BAW has been dealing with a few house issues lately and
have been grumpy on occasions. So I'm definitely swimming in a
huge pot of emotional soup. For an ENTJ, I'm simply out of my
element. I can not relate to all the emotions everyone is going
through. I am still sticking to my hypothesis that we must go
throught some kind of hormonal change at the toddler stage similar to
those experienced by teenagers. There is tremendous growth at the
toddler stage as well, I can't imagine that hormones don't play a big
role. But I have not been able to find any medical data online to
support this hypothesis. Althought as I read the ENTJ
characteristics more carefully, Ahgoo seems to exhibit a few
traits...she's focused and determined, her teachers describe her as a
natural leader, she's very decisive, and she prefers to solve her own
problems most of the time. So maybe her emotional fits are more
due to her age and not her personality. Maybe she's just like me!
Well, only time will tell. For now, I guess I just have to
hope
that this emotional storm blows through quickly and brace myself for
the teenage years...gulp. |

June was a
pretty crazy month. We had so many firsts happening for us.
It started with Buzz learning how to ride his bike!! It
took a little convincing him that he can do it. Then after the
mental hurdle, he picked it up in just two lessons. He first rode
all by himself when we took him to UCSB, one of the most bike-friendly
campuses around. Then he rode comfortably at his future high
school, around the school gym. Then, on June 18, Buzz had his
very first graduation ever! He graduated from pre-school and the
school put on a lovely graduation ceremony that is worthy of a high
school production! The kids perfomed four songs and a play, The
Three Little Pigs. Buzz played the starring role of the big bad
wolf. I regretfully did not bring any tissues to the graduation,
a mistake I will never make again. I hung up his very first
diploma on our wall at home, along with all of our diplomas. Then
there was Father's Day. Both Buzz and Ahgoo performed songs at
school for all the fathers. We're especially proud of Ahgoo, she
sang two songs, one of them was "Take Me Out to the Ball Game", and was
the only one in her class to actually sing! The month ended with
Ahgoo going to her very first swim class. In between all of that
we attended a friend's son's high school graduation party at the Western Museum of Flight and a fancy birthday party at the Aquarium of the Pacific. Sometimes
I'm torn between living life and documenting life. If I spend too
much time worrying about getting a picture I miss being in the moment
with my family. But if I don't take any pictures, I tend to
regret it a day later because I'll worry that I won't remember the
moment. I'm still learning how to balance the two. I think
for the most part, I'm taking pictures less often in our daily lives.
During more significant events, such as birthday parties or
trips, I'm being more selective with the pictures I take. We'll
see how my live-document balance goes. :-) I'm also still working
on figuring out work-life balance...
| Ahgoo's answer to why she loves her daddy.

| Mr. BAW volunteered to read a story to Ahgoo's class.

| Mr. BAW opening gifts the kids made for him at school.

| Having fun at the Museum of Flight.
| The pilots.
| The satellite display at the Flight Museum.
|
The captains.
 | I
discovered Buzz's drawing on the morning of his graduation. I'll
be proud of him no matter what he chooses to be. But I must admit
that seeing this made my heart soar!
| My little scholar. I hope that his educational journey will be long and fullfilling.
 | Buzz's
latest drawing. It is Optimus Prime (from the Transformers) and
Batman catching robbers (at the bottom) holding bags of money (even
with his mouth. There is also a spaceship flying against the
starts. His drawings are more and more elaborate and getting very
creative.
 | Ahgoo
patiently waiting for her swim assessment. She looks so grown up
in this picture, it makes me tear up! Daddy is giving her some
last minute encouragement. I love these two!
 | I'm learning from Ahgoo to slow down and smell the flowers more often...instead of taking pictures of the flowers!
