| I want to warn you that this is a long post, with lots of pictues from our recent trip to the South Coast Botanical Garden.
We live close to this lovely garden but we don't go often enough.
However, we drove by it recently and saw a couple of giant lego
blocks at the parking lot entrance and were intriqued. Turns out
that they are having a temporary exhibit by Nature Connects displaying the lego creations of Sean Kenny.
So we spent an afternoon there because Mr. BAW and the kids all
enjoy legos. I must say, the lego creations are beautiful, they
were all life size or larger. My favorites were the fox and the
rabbit. But they were all pretty impressive. The sculptures
were littered throuhgout the garden but they do have a map to guide
you. We found most of them but missed a few. If you get a
chance to see it, is well worth the price of admission. Also,
Northrop Grumman sponsored a little lego area for the kids to play
with. The weather was beautiful and the kids had a lot of fun.
By the way, I'm serving jury duty, so that explains why I have
time to edit all these pictures. | I have a new appreciation for drought-resistent gardens.
 | Humming bird and flowers.
 | A giant red rose, the kids had fun pretending to be Alice and made me the Queen of Hearts.

| My favorite lego display.
 | A seed germinating.
 | The little gardeners.
 | A giant gardener.
 | The buffaloes. Notice the little bird perched on the mama buffalo.
 | A koi jumping out of the pond...wonder what the real koi think of him.
 | A giant wasp. He was quite impressive.
 | A beautfiul butterfly behind us.
 | My favorite veggie, the artichoke!!
 | Being Jane.
 | The pergola in the rose garden.
 | The giant Banyan trees offered shade and a natural playground.
 | Dessert garden.
 | Perfect weather.
 | The most beautiful butterfly ever!
 | The kids felt like Alice in Wonderland.
 | Will she kiss the frog??

If you are still just eating regular ice cream
then you need to branch out, get out of the carton!! In LA, there
are so many unique, innovative, and delicious ways to eat ice cream.
After our Caltech visit, we walked a few blocks over to Afters
for an ice cream sandwich. These guys run out of an old time
converted gas station. The charm is just oozing out of my bones!
I wish I was a student at Caltech just to be able to walk to this
place. They NEED to put one in near every university! So,
they literally serve unique ice cream flavors between two sweet buns.
The buns are akin to a Crispy Kremes donut, you can get them
normal or glazed. The ice cream flavors range from Vietnamese
coffee to jasmine milk tea. Then, you can add an assortment of
toppings like rice crispy treats and peanutbutter mini cups. We
all shared a sandwhich because we were still full from our early
dinner. But next time, I'm getting my own! If you happened
to be near an Afters location, you need to get a sandwich!
My
other ice cream delight lately is the shaved ice cream. No, it's
not shaved ice, it's shaved ice cream. They literally take a
frozen block of ice cream and stick it onto a machine that would shave
the ice cream into this creamy, fluffy dessert. Many places serve
them now but I like Block Heads Shavery. You can also get various sauces over it as well as toppings. Yummy. |

So you already know that I love univerisities.
One reason that I love them is actually for their "wildlife."
One can argue how "wild" the campus animals are but one thing's
certain, they are smart!! What wildlife you ask, besides the wild
late teens?? Well, at UCLA the squirrels run the show. They
are so bold that they will literally jump onto your dining table and
grab your muffin. I always thought that one day, they'd wise up
and start attending classes carrying tiny little backpacks. At
USC, the cockroaches used to roam campus. They were not your
ordinary roach, they were supersized roaches! They would drag
their huge bodies across paths and you'd literally have to stop for
them. Haha, gross I know! Cal State Long Beach
has a gorgeous Japanese garden where the giant koi fish live.
They are like dogs, they'd all swim up to you begging for food.
Well, the other weekend, after visiting my parents, we
took the kids over to Caltech for a stroll. We wanted to visit
the turtles like we did four years ago.
The Caltech turtles are super smart, the second we knelt down
they swam right over to us. I had forgotten how big they are!
I happened to have cheerios in my purse, as any mother would, and
I gave some for the kids to feed the turtles. Well, to our
surprise, an entire swarm of turtles swam over! There must have
been over fifty turtles in that pond. Then a few giant koi fish
swam over and were clamouring to get cheerios amongst all the turtles!
Next thing we knew, the turtles started to climb out of the pond
coming after us. These turtles were fast, I was struggling to get
the cheerious out of my purse. We decided to leave the pond when
it appeared that all of the turtles were going to climb out. Then we
headed over to a smaller, upper pond where a turtle decided to chase
Buzz away when he got close. I think it might be a mama turtle
protecting her nest of eggs. Overall, we had a blast on campus.
There were a few students around and the temperature was perfect
for a late afternoon stroll. |

|
| The turtles were getting agressive, I couldn't bring out the cheerios fast enough for them!

Before
leaving March, we celebrated Ahgoo's fourth birthday! Eeek, I
can't believe she's four. I remember the day she was born like it
was yesterday. When Buzz was born, I was a mess. I was so
scared of being a mother that I never got to enjoy being a mother.
But with Ahgoo, I had experience under my belt. So it was
with her that I got to fully experienced the joys of motherhood.
I remember her baby smell, her smiles, her cubby legs, and her
beautiful cheeks! Now, at four years old, she's the funniest,
silliest, and smartest person I know. I keep telling her that she
needs to use her brains for doing good things in this world. She
just replies, "Know that, Mommy!" She is still obsesssed
with coloring, painting, and drawing. She loves cats and tells me
that she will get a cat when she grows up but I can't visit the cat
because I will sneeze (she knows that I am allergic to cats and so she
won't get to have a cat until she's on her own.) I told her that
I will take allergy medicine so I can visit her and her cat. She
continues to pick out her own outfits every morning and will always
pick out silly socks (they don't match). For her fourth birthday,
we kept it low key and did our own little celebration at home. We
then took her to Disneyland. Her favorite thing that day was
meeting Minnie Mouse. I love this little girl so, so, so , so ,
so , so ,so, so, so much...as she loves to say.
