We spent our very first Christmas at our new home.  We lit not one, but two fireplaces on Christmas.  The end of the year is always a busy one for us with two birthdays in addition to Christmas and New Years.  But this year, it's even crazier with our recent move.  Thankfully, my In-Laws are in town and have given us a tremendous amount of help.  We also got to celebrate the holidays with them, including getting a Christmas tree and decorating our new home.  It also would not be Christmas without a big family meal.  Mr. BAW and my MIL made us not one, but two pies!  I especially love the sweet potato mash, brussel sprouts, and (my favorite) crab bisque.  Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas with your loved ones as well.  I will also be posting about how we decorated our tree this year.  Oh, and someone turned FOUR!!!

Meeting The Man!  Ahgoo didn't cry this year either!  Buzz asked Santa if he could ride the fire truck.

Toby was not forgotten.

What can possibly be worse than rain on your wedding day?  How about rain on your move day?  In fact, we moved on the heaviest rainfall day of the year!  Thankfully, the heavy rainfall occurred during the loading of the truck where the movers were able to back their truck right up to our front door so our stuff was pretty much spared from getting wet.  Luckily (if you can call it lucky) the rain had stopped by the time the movers unloaded at our new home, which has steps and a much longer walk to the front door.  Now that we've been at our new home for over a week, I can sit back and recount the good, the bad, and the ugly of our "move story."

The ugly is, of course, the weather.  Although it was not the first rainfall of the year, it was definitely the heaviest!  It was literally raining dogs and cats!  The entire morning during the loading process, the rain just got heavier and heavier.  I felt so bad for the movers, but they just zipped up their jackets and kept going!

That leads me to the good of our move.  We had THE BEST movers I've ever had!!  I found A Better Way to Move on Yelp.  They got over 150 raving yelp reviews.  I figure all those people can't be wrong.  Sure enough, they were awesome!  From the second I spoke to the person on the phone, I felt that they were reliable.  From past experiences, I was very skeptical that the movers were going to show up on time.  But, these guys got to our house 5 minutes before their official start time!   They were super cheerful and friendly and quickly explained the time keeping business to us.  After a quick set of instructions from me about what to move in each room, they started working.  They literally worked quickly and efficiently, even in the pouring rain, all the while maintaining a fantastic attitude.  Neither place, nor any of our stuff, sustained any damage, not even a scratch!  If we ever move again, that would be never, I would definitely use them again!

Now, to the bad.  The first night we spent at the new house, things seemed good.  I even managed to get the kids' bedroom organized, just like at the old house.  But when we woke up the next morning, the house felt extremely cold.  Turns out that the furnace stopped working in the middle of the night!  Of course with the rain storm, we were getting the first artic blast of the year!  The morning low dipped down to the mid 30's!!  It was about 50 inside the house without heat.  Thank goodness we were able to ship the kids to stay with my In-laws for a few days to stay warm. The next five days were a mess dealing with the furnace contractors that our home warranty used. Mr. BAW and I (with Toby) kept warm using space heaters and heavy bedding at night. After we solicited the help of our realtor to threaten the home warranty people, we were finally placed on the top of the furnace conractor's priority.  It took five days, but on that Friday immediately after they fixed our furnace, my In-laws kindly drove our babies back to us!  Before this, I had never been away from the kids for more than two night, ever!  I missed those little rascals so much!

In case you were wondering, Toby was sent off to stay with our Aunt for a few days during the move.  We brought him to the new house a few days later (with no heat), after we've had a chance to set up his stuff.

So now, after two weeks at the new house, we are settling in very nicely.  I'm about 95% unpacked.  The kids have adjusted to the new home swimmingly.  We've even manage to get a Christmas tree and put up some lights on our balcony.  I'll share some pictures of our new house and my new way to decorate a tree!  For now, I share with you my Pinterest board for our new home.  Yes, we are in a Spanish Colonial style house.  Happy holidays everyone!

Well, we've moved out of our old house.  We're making good progress in getting settled into the new house, we've even received a few early Christmas cards.  However, things are still very chaotic.  To take a break from it all, I want to show you some pictures of our traditional Black Friday activity.  We took the kids to the California Science Center to see Endeavour.  Since it was Black Friday and it was raining, the crowd was pretty light.  We picked up tickets (free) for a time slot and only had to wait about 15 minutes to get in.  It took longer to get into the kids' play area than to see the shuttle!  Oh, and excuse me for showing you so many pictures of the kids but whenever I get a non-blurry picture of both kids together, I get very excited!  But the star of this blog is, of course, Endeavour.  The space shuttle is smaller than I had imagined.  But it was beautiful and spectacular.  We can't wait to see it in the launch position after the museum builds the new exhibit hall.

I will try to blog about our big move after the whole ordeal is over.  For now, I'm just happy to escape from it all by going to work!  Enjoy the pics below.

Ahgoo was so excited when she saw the "eh-pleens".

On November 30th, our good friend Matt got married!   In my earlier post, I mentioned that we had a glorious November, weatherwise.  Our Thanksgiving was warm and spectacular.  Well, the next day on Black Friday, we had pouring rain!  Can you imagine being the bride-to-be on the rainy day right before your big day??  Well, the following day, on Saturday, they were rewarded with one of the most beautiful days in November!  The skies were blue and the temperature was warm!!  It was as if someone decided to wash the air for their wedding because it was so clear that we can see the Hollywood sign all the from the church in Palos Verdes.  The wedding was beautiful and since I haven't seen his family for almost ten years, it was so nice to see them all again.  By the way, Matt's father has Toby's daughter, Abby!

The reception was at the Cheesecake Factory overlooking the Redondo Beach marina.  The reception room had a beautiful view of the sailboats!  The best man's speech had me in tears, it was given by Matt's older brother.  His speech was very heartfelt and reminded me of my two kids.  Hopefully, they will develop a close relationship growing up as siblings as well.

Besides the touching moments throughout the wedding, my favorite part of the reception was a cupcake appetizer!  The bride is a big time cook and baker so she ordered two types of mini-cupcakes as appetizers for the guests, both are Food Network award winner!  My favorite is the Breakfast Cupcake from My Delight Cup Cakery in Onterio California.  Oh my goodness, it is the best cupcake I have ever had, EVER!  It's not too sweet and it has bacon crunch on top with bacon sprinkled throughout.  I know it sounds weird but the bacon really balances out the maple syrup flavor and the entire thing just works!  I ate about 5 of them in one sitting!  Too bad the bakery is so far away.  But I'm sure we'll have to make a trip out there sometime.  Days after I'm still thinking about that cupcake!  Oh, and yes, they did serve us cheesecake as well. :-)

The best cupcake I've ever had! Yes, I took a bite before I remember to take the picture!

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving meal this year with the kids' Great Aunt.  Even though the turkey was fabulous, cooked perfectly, this Thanksgiving was about chickens!  You see, Great Aunt arranged for us to visit her friend in her neighborhood who owns a mini-farm of sorts.  This woman owns about 5 horses, a donkey, and about 15 chickens!  So we were treated to a little show and tell with her adorable animals.  Buzz amazed me by running right into the chicken coup!  He didn't hesitate to poke his head into the hen house to check out their blue and green eggs.   Mr. BAW was a little timid at first but, with the guidance of the owner, he was able to hold a chicken on his own!  She personally hand raised every single chicken so they were not skittish around people.  Me?  I was a big chicken and stayed outside the coup!  The kids had a blast, Ahgoo kept saying, "Bawk, bawk!" as she points to the chickens.

November was such a spectacular month for us this year.  We had so many glorious days on the weekends where I would wake up and say, "We have to go out somewhere because it's such a beautiful day!"  Here are a few pictures from one of those days.  We took the kids down to the beach and happened upon a pelican feeding frenzy!  It must be fish migration time because the ocean was full of pelicans and other birds out fishing for food.
