Several weeks ago, Mr. BAW and our buddy El Dawg took on the world famous Mud Run challange hosted by the Marines at Camp Pendleton in San Diego.  The run was a tough 10K trail full of muddy obstacles.  There was a brutal hike up to a "castle", a muddy 5-foot wall to climb, two rows of tires to hop across, a lake to wade across, and even a mud pool to swim through.  The entire time, you have Marines shouting at you and spraying you with a firehose.  Sounds like a trip to Disneyland doesn't it?

The best part of all of this is that Toby and I got to come along to watch.  Toby even got to ride on the shuttle bus that takes us to the course.  So naturally I now love the Marines.  They love dogs and it shows! :-)

Enjoy the pictures from that eventful day.  There were thousands of people there and most were runners! :-)  Mr. BAW finished the course in under an hour, a record he's quite proud of.

All clean and beaming at the beginning of the race.

Can you see them?  They are the ones with the V signs!

Family and friends offering support, far from the mud pit.

This is mud pit the runners have to swim through.

Mr. BAW finishing up all muddy.

El Dawg coming in not long after, equally muddy.

El Dawg showing off his LA Marathon cap and Mud Run shirt.

El Dawg hangin out with the real dog after the run.

Toby all excited on the shuttle to the Mud Run!!

Toby passed out on the car ride home...

I gave Mr. BAW this rock I found at PV beach and he gave me this rock in return.  I think it's a fair exchange. :-)

It happened on Father's Day Sunday.  I was completely expecting him to pop the question in two weeks when we take a trip up the California coast to Carmel and Monterey.  So I was not expecting the proposal at all.  On Sunday, we had been working hard on some home improvement project and when it was done, Mr. BAW and I decided to pack a picnic and headed down to my favorite

beach in Palos Verdes with Toby and enjoy the sunset.  That's when he surpirsed me with a proposal.  I never thought that I would cry but I was overwhemled by emotions.

So After a day I'm still getting used to wearing the ring.  I'll spend the next few weeks just getting used to it.  Next month I'll probably ask myself "what now?"

TNH's wedding is coming up in one week...eek! I'm getting nervous for her... :-)

I've been extremely busy lately and all the stress has mde me wish that I was back in Japan.  One place I especially miss is the Path of Philosophy in Kyoto.

The Path of Philosophy was absolutely beautiful when we were in Japan.  The Cherry Blossoms were in full bloom and they reach across the canal like a huge floral canopy.  The petals in various shades of pink flutters down like snow flakes whenever a breeze blows through.  The path is about a mile and a half.  Along the way, there are cute little gift shops and food stores that can only be found in small towns.

Cherry Blossom Trees only bloom for a couple of months a year.  But it is such a huge part of the Path of Philosophy that I can't imagine the path without these beautiul pink blooms.  We were extremely lucky to have walked the path in its full glory.

Every time I take a trip I tend to have preconcived notions of what it would be like.  Though our tour books and friends have all told us that the Path of Philosophy is beautiful and a "must-see" I was not expecting it to have such an impact on me.  No book or recommendation can decribe the feeling one experiences when you are walking on the path.  And I was so in awe when I was there that I didn't get a real chance to fully enjoy the path.  I hope that down the road, I will get a chance to return to this place and truely experience the tranquility of the path.

A few weeks ago, Toby was asked to be in TNH's wedding pictures as the partner for her parents' little Tibetan Terrier named Tigger.  I was extremely honored that Toby was going to be part of TNH's wedding!  So we had to go find Toby a formal bow tie to match Tigger who was going to be wearing a diamond tiara and pearls.

Where does one go to find bow ties for a dog?  I tried the usual places; Petco, Petsmart, Target, etc.  None of those places carried bow ties for dogs.  I also tried looking for them online but most websites seemed unreliable and they were pretty expensive.  Finally, I went to a Men's Wearhouse and found one for $10.  Since Toby's neck size was pretty big, probably as big as a very buff grown man, the standard bow tie fits him well.

Take a look at my little boy!!! Isn't he dashing?!  I think he looked so spiffy!  And Tigger looks beautiful in her tiara and pearls, even though she didn't quite like Toby and wanted to chase him away.  But we managed to get a couple of adorable pictures of the two of them with the real Bride and Groom-to-be.
