Merry Christmas 2017
As promised, I want to show you the inside of the General Store at the Amana Colonies
. The second I walked into the store my mind was blown. It was a feast for the eyes. I didn't even know where to start looking. I could've spent hours in there! I just want to give you some ideas of what's in the store. But you can multiply what you see here by 100 and start to get the idea. I do wonder what they sell in the middle of Summer. Enjoy some Christmas cheer as we get close to Christmas Eve. I am really enjoying this "extra" week before Christmas this year. Notice how many blog posts I managed to write!!! Merry Christmas everyone!

Another Year Wiser
Another birthday, another year wiser. Thanks to Grandparents' babysitting service, my BIL and SIL treated me and Mr. BAW to a nice, grown-up dinner for my birthday. As I officially hit my mid-40's, I'm learning more patience with life...patience with children, with house remoldelling, with careers, with life in general. I'm learning how to stop and smell the roses and admire the succulents more. Happy Winter Solstice

Based on a friend's recommendation, my SIL took us all to the Amana Colonies
to experience a German Christmas. The town was oozing with charm. I had a field day with pictures. The air was crisp and the sunset casted a beautiful glow to all the adorable houses in town. Their annual Christmas Festival had just ended the day before and we missed it. So the town was extra quiet. I have to show you the inside of the General Store in an other blog post because it's mind blowing. For now, if you are ever in Iowa, you must pay a visit to Amana Colonies.

Christmas In Chicago
The way Christmas landed this year in December, I feel like I have an extra week. It feels like there's an extra weekend for shoppers before Christmas arrives on a Monday. I'm sure stores just love the extra shopping weekend.
Since the kids school got the week before Christmas off, we got to get a head start on Christmas celebration. I got all of my Christmas cards out early, I got all of my shopping done, I even got all the gift wrapping completed way before Christmas! Unfortunately and fortunately, we started holiday eating a week ahead of schedule as well. I'm going to dread stepping onto a scale after Christmas!
With the extra week off, we took a quick trip to Chicago to see the Christmas lights! Let me tell you that the Windy City did not disappoint. What a gorgeous city at Christmas time. Sure we had to pay $40 for parking at Michigan Avenue
and sure my BIL had to drive like a cabby through traffic from hell for me to see all the amazing lights. But it was all worth it. Let me tell you that the pictures do not do it justice. Although I was slightly disappointed that there was no snow, I was glad to not have to fly into a blizzard. We were also thankful that there was no rain. We had a lovely time walking down Michigan Avenue and getting free chocolate samples everywhere we went. Enjoy more Christmas lights!!

Notice how I'm always a month behind in my blogging? Yes, I posted Halloween pictures in November. Well, to get ahead of myself, I'm going to show you some amazing Christmas lights in December!
We spent our Thanksgiving in Arizona with the In-Laws. We had a fantastic turkey dinner and swimming in the pool everyday. Although it was kind of hard to think about Christmas in 85 degree weather, we got a good dose of Christmas cheer at the Mesa Mormon Temple
. They show a magnificent show of light display in the temple grounds each year. We were lucky to get there early, right at sunset, and got a great parking space. The place was absolutely magical. Even though my pictures do not do it justice, hope it'll still give you an idea of the lights.

Although I live in LA, I am pretty far from most of the fires you hear about each year. However, this year, the Skirball Fire hits ever close to an area I lived in for years! The famous 405
by the Getty Museum was transformed into what can only be normally seen in Hollywood apocalyptic movies. The image below is curtesy of International Business Times. I have friends who's had to evacuate their homes. UCLA is only a few miles away. Thankfully, the firefighters were able to contain and put out the Skirball Fire before any homes were burned. In the middle of December, this wave of fires was definitely unusual. Hopefully the winds will die down and we get back to some normal LA winter weather.
