CRAZY NOVEMBER
It's been crazy. Not only for our own lives, but of course for the country and the world. Regardless of how you wanted the election to turn out, at least it's all over for now. But we will live with this outcome for years and years to come. As you know from my last post, I've been watching lectures on the Foundations of
Eastern Civilization. It is simply astonding how true the quote by George Sntayana is..."Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." I'm very close to completing all 48 lectures, most of which follows the history of the Chinese dynasties. What strikes me the most is that most of the world's most incredible dynasties and empires do not exceed more than about 300 years. So perhaps the world is prime for major changes. It is very interesting, from sociology perspective, why empires and dynasties fall around the world. There are certainly many common threads; famine, poverty driven unrest, oppression. Often though, it's just simply that the later generation of rulers do not have what it takes to be a leader because empires and dynasties inherit their positions. It's still uncertain how long democracies can last. Do people really want to have a say or do majority of people just want to be told what to do? I guess it also depends on the educational levels of the majority. Making tough decisions requires knowlege. But these days, there are only biased information people seek, and there are plenty of very biased information out there on the internet. Gone are the days when we all watched the same channels and get the news from the same papers. Now, people can only seek out what they want to hear...I call it "self-propaganda." I can't wait to see what sociologists are finding about our societies now and how technology is driving us.
For us, we've been very busy the past few months! We are all getting the hang of having a high-schooler at home. Buzz is doing great in high school and he has a huge group of friends for support. I've been pretty busy at work, I hope things will calm down as we head into the holidays. Back in October, we went to the LA Comic Con and had a great time. Mr. BAW booked tickets to get signatures from Kristen Schaal (who is the voice of Mabel in Gravity Falls) and Christopher Lloyd!! He's in his mid 80's so it was a big deal to be able to meet him in person. The kids have all seen Back to the Future so they know who his is. There were so many people in the signature lines dressed up as Marty and Doc Brown! We also always enjoy seeing all the cosplay. Buzz was dressed up as Dipper from Gravity Falls and lots of people were taking pictures of him and asking him to be in pictures with them! Ahgoo and I really enjoy shopping the artists booths. People are so creative and make amazing crafts. We look forward to next year's Comic Con!
