CLASSIC SEQUOIA

My perfect vacation is a trip to a beautiful European city with lovely shops, restaurants, universities, and museums. So yes, I'm a city girl. But when Mr. BAW forces me to a trip into nature, I'm always suspect at first, even feeling a little weary. But once I'm there, I am always grateful that he "made me go." During the craziness of the COVID-19 Pandemic, a getaway to nature is exactly what we all needed. Here are some class Sequoia pictures you are probably all expecting to see. I breathed in fresh air, I listened to silence, and I nurished my soul. It was lovely. And Kepler, after the discovery of his love of climbing rocks, enjoyed Sequoia thoroughly! Sequoia had just re-opened, still closed for camping. But the park was extremely quiet, most times we were the only people there! This was definietly a unique time to visite the part and we thoroughly enjoyed it. I hope you like my selection of pictures, I try to not be too repetitive with showing those amazing Giants.

MORO ROCK

Most people have heard of Sequoia National Park and its iconic giant trees named after famous American Generals. But did you know that Moro Rock is also in Sequoia National Park?! It is a huge granite dome rock that can be seen as you drive along the curvy road up along the mountain. Although we've been to Sequoia before for a camping trip, we've never seen Moro Rock. So this time, we made an effort to hike all the way to the top. Kepler had to stay in the car for our little hike since dogs are not allowed on the hike. But he was happy for the nap. It was a spectacular hike along the giant rock, the views were magnificent. We highly recommend Moro Rock if you visit Sequoia. The entire hike up and down only took about half an hour, depending on how long you want to linger at the top. Enjoy our pictures!

THREE RIVERS

After four months of COVID-19 quarantine and being extra busy at work, Mr. BAW insisted on a real vacation for the Fourth of July week. Due to restrictions however, we were still limited to where we can go. Our work restricts our travel to within 150 miles of home. So we decided to drive to Three Rivers, just a few miles from Sequoia National Park for some R&R. I have a general rule about camping, I will only camp for two nights at most. It's all I can stand not showering! But since he thought it was too short, Mr. BAW decided to rent an AirBNB so we can stay three nights and four days. The house was a three-bedroom, two bathroom place, very lovely with a huge balcony and even a game room with a pingpong table! The best is that they allow dogs so Kepler was able to join us for the trip. In addition, the house was just across from the river so the kids and Kepler had a wonderful time hanging out on the river. The kids brought water guns and had a blast. Although town was tiny, they still had a lovely ice cream shop, a small market, and a nice sandwich shop that kept us well fed throughout the trip. The weather at Three Rivers was warm, in the low 90's the days we were there. That was perfect for swimming. But when we drove into Sequoia, with the elevation, the temperature dropped to a comfortable high 60's, perfect for hiking.

On our first trek down to the river, Kepler was very apprehensive about going into the water. He hopped around on the rocks and hung out by the banks with me. Mr. BAW was determined to get him swimming on this trip, but only managed to get Kepler in the water at the river for maybe three seconds before he clambered up onto a rock. Enjoy the pictures from Three Rivers, I'll share the Sequoia pictures in another blog.
