SPRING BREAK!!
We had an amazing Spring Break this year. A good friend of Mr. BAW has been wanting us to visit him and his adorable family in Portland Maine for the longest time. We finally took up his offer and spent a few days in Portland over our Spring Break this year. Again, the weather was extremely kind to us. I kept checking my weather app weeks before our trip. There were threats of rain and I just kept hoping for breaks in the rain. Luckily for us, rain ended up being on days we were traveling, leaving our fun days dry and glorious.
We acturally spent two days in Portland Maine and then spent three days in Boston. We drove from Portland to Boston, stopping through Kennebunkport Maine along the way.
I've been wanting to eat lobster in Maine for most of my life! So this was an absolute dream come true. Our friends were amazing hosts, they not only opened up their adorable century-old home to us, they also put checks on three of my to-do list in Portland on the firs day we spent in Maine! We were surprised by donuts from
The Holy Dount, a place on my list of things to try. After breakfast, they took us to a near by Maple Syrup Festival, which happended to be going on that weekend. We all got to learn about how maple syrup is drained out of the trees and then have to be boiled down...way down since the sugar content coming out of the trees are only 2%! The kids also got to enjoy maple syrup ice cream and cotton candy. Yes, it was a sugary day. Then that same evening, we all went to
Luke's for an amazing classic lobster dinner. Everyone, except for Aghoo and our friends' youngest, got full lobsters. WIth the guidance of our friend, Kim, who grew up in Maine, the kids were even able to pick up live lobsters from a tank at the entrance of Luke's. I was in lobster heaven that night. But the next day, I tried a lobster roll from
Gilbert's Chowder House in downtown Portland and was in heaven again!! Since Gilbert's I've had several other lobster rolls, including in Boston, but Gilbert's is my favorite. We spent our last day in Portland checking out Downtown Portland and visiting the famous Head Light Lighthouse. The coastline is beautiful and we even got to tour an abandoned mansion.
When we were leaving Portland to drive to Boston (only about two hours away) we decided to grab lunch at Kennebunkport and check out the charming little town and drove by the Bush Compound. Kennebunkport is a very cute town. However, we discovered that at the end of March, most shops were still closed from winter. Most of the shops don't open until about mid April. I guess Kennebunkport is a summer vacation spot for the rich and no one was there when we visited! Only two shops were opened and they were still stocking up, not really expecting any visitors. I had another lobster roll in Kennebunkport but it was not as good as Gilbert's. Overall, we had a wonderful time in Maine and had a wonderful visit with our sweet friends.

WAY BEHIND
Oh my goodness, I am so way behind in blogging. The last month has been pretty crazy. We had an amazing Spring Break...best one since our trip to Copenhagen before COVID! But that'll be my next blog post.
Back in February, yes, two months ago, we took a little road trip up the coast to
Hearst Castle. Mr. BAW and I have both been there separately in the distant past. But Mr. BAW wanted to take the kids on a road trip over Presidents' Day. The drive up the coast was beautiful and we were able to see Morro Bay Rock clearly. Plus, you know what road trips mean...Kepler gets to come along! And what a trip he had!! Kepler got to sleep on the kids' bed in the hotels, got to run on the beach, and got to meet all kinds of strange creatures he'd never seen before. On the way home, we spent a day in Santa Barbara, which is always nice. That's where Kepler encountered a giant crab that scared him a little and, not one but two, pelicans. It was a nice trip, the best part of the trip for the kids was the hotel pool...it almost always is...life is simple like that sometimes.
